You all may know that we love meat in our home, from recipes like homemade meatloaf to porkchops, we like it all. So, why a meatless spaghetti sauce?

Well, in our home, we all like our spaghetti a little different. So, I cook up delicious cast iron skillet meatballs to serve with the spaghetti sauce. My husband and I both enjoy the meatballs with sauce, but no noodles. Some of the children prefer just one meatball, noodles and a lot of sauce. So, cooking the sauce separate from the meat and noodles makes everyone happy. Do you have this same experience in your home?

How to Make Homemade Meatless Spaghetti Sauce with Canned Tomato Sauce/Paste

This recipe is made using store purchased tomato sauce and tomato paste. If you have fresh or garden canned tomato sauce and paste, you could use that in place of the canned tomato products.

I always prefer canned garden tomato sauce, but I didn’t get any canned from our raised garden beds last year. Hopefully, I can accomplish that this year!

Step 1: Combine Ingredients

In a large stockpot combine all of the following ingredients:
24 ounces of tomato sauce
2 cans tomato paste
2 cans of water or beef broth ( use the tomato paste can to measure)
1 T. dried parsley
1/2 tsp oregano

Step 2: Simmer

Simmer all of the combined ingredients over low heat. I suggest simmering for at least 30 minutes but have simmered the sauce up to an hour. This gives the flavors more time to combine. Do not allow the mixture to boil.

Step 3: Serve

This sauce is best served hot over homemade meatballs and spaghetti noodles.

How to Store and Freeze Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

Homemade spaghetti sauce can easily be made ahead of time. I store mine in a mason jar in the fridge for 3-4 days.

To freeze the sauce, allow the mixture to cool completely. Then put it in a freezer safe container and put a label on it. Store in the freezer for up 4-6 months.

How to Reheat Meatless Spaghetti Sauce

To reheat the sauce from the fridge, place sauce in a pot and reheat on the stove until it is warm.

To reheat the sauce if frozen, allow the sauce to thaw, then place in a pot and reheat until it is warm.
